1. What is Estrogen?

Estrogen is the name for a group of hormones comprising of estrone, estradiol and estriol.

It is manufactured mostly in the ovaries for women and can also be found in smaller amounts in men, as by-products of the testosterone conversion process.

Estrogen is responsible for developing specific physical traits in both sexes. In women, these include breasts, a widened pelvis and higher amounts of body fat in the buttock, thigh and the hip region. 2. How is Estrogen useful to our body?

Estrogen is crucial to a woman's health. Apart from regulating the menstrual cycle, estrogen also plays an active role in facilitating the reproductive process. It can contribute to increasing high density lipoprotein (HDL), which is considered the "good" cholesterol, and lower the low density lipoprotein (LDL), which is the "bad" cholesterol.

After menopause, women experience a reduction in estrogen and this can lead to vaginal dryness, memory problems, hot flushes, fatigue, irritability and decrease in bone density.

Soybeans and soy derivatives have particularly large amounts of isoflavones, which are a sub-group of phytoestrogens.

4. How are Isoflavones useful to our body?
